Does any of this sound familiar?

  • You “do all the right things” and mornings are still slow and uncomfortable.
  • Fiber was supposed to help. Instead it left you bloated and gassy.
  • By late afternoon your waistband feels two sizes too small.
  • The laxative that used to work now takes more and more.
  • Reflux means you stop eating early just to get some sleep.
  • Your tests came back normal, and nobody handed you an actual plan.

You’re not doing it wrong. Nobody gave you the “how.”

Why fiber didn't work before

Too much, too fast.

Most advice says “eat more fiber” and stops there. Nobody says which fiber, how much, or how slowly. So you add a big bowl of bran, and the bloating starts.

The gentle way is to add about 5 grams a week, with a glass of water alongside, starting with the softest fibers like oats and cooked fruit. A good daily goal for most adults over 50 is about 21 to 30 grams.

The 28-Day Gentle Gut Kitchen turns that into breakfast, lunch and dinner for every single day.

Your 4-week ramp

Fiber per day, from the daily menus

Week 1 · Gentle Start12–14 g
Week 2 · Building18–19 g
Week 3 · Settling In21–24 g
Week 4 · Keeping It Going26–29 g

Feeling bloated? Repeat the week. Slower is part of the plan.

One plan, three tracks. Pick yours.

Everyone follows the same gentle menus. Your track adds the swaps and habits for what bothers you most. You can pick more than one.

For slow, “backed up” mornings

Sluggish Mornings

Kiwi, prunes, oats and rye built into breakfast, a regular morning routine, and the swaps that help most. Food-first, and never a reason to stop a medicine on your own.

For the afternoon balloon

Bloat & Gas

Gentler, soluble fibers first (oats, cooked fruit), smaller steps up, and simple habits like eating slowly and skipping fizzy drinks.

For reflux and restless nights

Easy Evenings

Lighter dinners you can finish 2–3 hours before bed, and the evening habits published guidance recommends for night-time reflux.

Your guide in the kitchen

Hello, I'm Maggie.

I'm not a doctor or a dietitian, and I'll never pretend to be. I'm the kind neighbor who has read the research so you don't have to, and turned it into simple food for a small kitchen.

Everything in the plan is built on published guidance from sources like the NIDDK, the American College of Gastroenterology and the British Dietetic Association. Every fiber number comes from USDA FoodData Central, and the sources are listed at the back of the book.

Where your health needs a professional, the plan says so plainly. For everything else, there's a warm bowl of porridge.

Questions people ask

Is this a diet?+

No. There’s no calorie counting and nothing to give up. It’s a gentle way to eat a little more fiber each week, with normal meals you already know: porridge, soups, sandwiches, salmon, chili.

I tried adding fiber before and it made me bloated. Why is this different?+

Too much, too fast is the most common reason fiber “makes it worse.” This plan adds about 5 grams a week, with a glass of water alongside, and starts with the gentlest fibers like oats and cooked fruit. If a week feels like too much, you simply repeat it. Slower is part of the plan.

Is it safe with my medications?+

The plan never asks you to stop or change a medicine. It includes the “Is It My Meds?” checklist (some common medicines can affect digestion) and a doctor-visit summary, so you can talk it over with your pharmacist or doctor. Always ask your prescriber before changing anything.

I live alone. Will I waste food?+

Every recipe serves one or two, and leftovers are built into the next day’s menu. The grocery lists are written for one person (double them for two).

Do I need special ingredients or supplements?+

No. Everything comes from a normal US grocery store, and each recipe has 8 ingredients or fewer. No powders, no pills, nothing to order online.

I’m not good with computers. How do I get it?+

Right after you pay, you’ll see a big “Download” button, and we email you the same button. Tap it and the book opens on your phone, tablet or computer. You can print it on normal letter paper. If anything is unclear, email maggie@maggiemoss.com and we’ll walk you through it.

How big is the print?+

Large: 16-point body text in an extra-readable font, on a soft cream background, with plenty of space. The Library adds 40 recipe cards in even bigger print.

Which plan should I choose?+

Most people choose the 28-Day Gentle Gut Kitchen: it takes you through all four weeks of the ramp. Choose the 7-Day Gentle Start if you just want to try the first week (you can upgrade later and only pay the difference). Choose the Library if you want everything, including 12 more weeks of menus and 20 comfort soups and slow-cooker dishes.

Is this a subscription?+

No. You pay once and the files are yours to keep.

How soon will I notice a difference?+

Everyone is different, so we don’t promise results or timelines. What we can promise is a plan that’s gentle, clear and easy to keep going, built only on published guidance and USDA data.

Is this medical advice?+

No. It’s education and a kitchen plan. The book includes a “When to see a doctor” page, because some symptoms (like blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss or a lasting change after 50) need a doctor, not a recipe.
